Education

Education has been one of the main focus areas of EWMA since its foundation. Improving education about wound management and wound care is an important element in the realisation of EWMA's main objectives to improve and develop wound management in Europe.

The aim is to produce a flexible framework for the delivery of inter-disciplinary wound management education across Europe, to accommodate national variations in health care provision and to raise the profile of wound care in a variety of health care settings.
The activities within education are coordinated by the EWMA Education Committee.

Objectives

The objectives of the Education Committee are as follows:

Objective 1) 
Provide healthcare professionals and students with up to date knowledge, in order to develop the necessary skills to provide optimal wound care.
This objective will be achieved through the following:

A: EWMA Conference:
 More integration of the EWMA UCM into the conference programme
Integration of Teach the Teacher activities

B: EWMA UCM:
Improve marketing towards institutions, EWMA corporate sponsors and other industry
Increase the number of students
Increase financial support available for students

C: Teach the Teachers:
Operationalise the program of Teach the Teachers
Review and update resource materials as appropriate and make them available on the website

D: Wound curricula:
Finalise current updating process
Finalise new modules under development
Elaborate modules on lymphoedema and dermatological issues (Deadline 1 Sept 2009)


Objective 2) 
Provide an educational framework that facilitates the dissemination of best practice in wound care education.
This objective will be achieved through the following:

A: Endorsement process
B: Wound curricula


Objective 3) 
Provide EWMA endorsement of contemporary, interdisciplinary wound management training courses.
This objective will be achieved through the following:

A: Increased marketing of the EWMA Endorsement service


Objective 4) 
Monitor and evaluate outcomes related to the education activities.
This objective will be achieved through the following:

A: Feedback from EWMA UCM students
B: Feedback from endorsement process
C: Feedback from institutions using the EWMA Curricula
