In1995 he was additionally registered as a trauma surgeon. In 1997 he became a senior staff member in the oldest trauma centre in the world, founded 1873 in Bochum, Germany. This is the famous trauma centre “Bergmannsheil” of the Ruhr University in Bochum. He is also the head of the regional level 1 trauma centre Northwest Netherlands in which the VU University Medical Centre collaborates with 10 regional hospitals. Special research topics of Jukema are diagnosis and treatment of soft tissue and bone infections (osteomyelitis). Research is also focussed on methods to prevent disabling amputations in case of severe bone defects and infections after trauma.
My goal is to bring the EWMA further in the field research and evidence based medicine for all members and to set an evidence based standard in wound care. This goal can only achieved by support of all players in the field of patient care (for example (research) nurses, physician assistants, doctors). Therefore I would be proud to represent EWMA as a council member and support their future directions and unit our forces achieve further progress to improve patients care and outcome.
